FAQ

  • What should I expect during the treatment? The results from this treatment are excellent but it is important to realise that this treatment can be uncomfortable. We are massaging the sponge spicules into the skin which penetrates into the dermis and replaces the need for physical needles. It does feel incredibly abrasive on the skin, we do not use anaesthetic. There is no visible skin breakage and no bleeding. After the needling segment of the treatment, a sheet masque containing Hyaluronic acid will be applied .
  • What is the downtime?Up to 10 days. You are likely to feel uncomfortable for up to 72 hours until the spicules have been discharged by the skin.Although only 25% of clients experience actual skin shedding at their first appointment the likelihood of experiencing this increases with each session, skin must not be picked at or encouraged to shed. You will be provided with aftercare after each session.
  • How many treatments can I have? For correction of skin concerns such as melasma, acne and acne scarring at least 4 treatments, 2 weeks apart are recommended
  • What will I look like after my treatment?Immediately after your treatment your skin will look moderately red. You will be given a homecare product and recommended an appropriate skin care regime depending on your skin type. Redness will subside after 24-48 hours.
Results times from SQT microneedling treatment can vary from person. It is possible for some people to see results shortly after the first treatment, but generally, optimal results are seen a few weeks after treatment. Collagen remodelling takes time so results will continue to improve over several months as new collagen forms.
  • The results from SQT microneedling treatment can be long lasting, but they are not considered permanent. SQT treatment stimulates the production of collagen which is vital for maintaining the smooth, plump appearance of skin. The natural ageing process of skin and environmental factors can affect skin over time. We recommend booking maintenance treatment sessions to sustain and enhance the results achieved through SQT microneedling.
  • Freshwater sponges are living creatures and are crucial for aquatic ecosystems. Sponge spicules for our SQT treatments are sourced from a freshwater sponge lake in Dongjang in China. All spicules are 100% natural, 100% ecological, and vegan. The use of Spongilla spicules has been famous for centuries in skincare, dating back to the 18th century in Europe.
  • Spongilla Lacustris is the sponge species used for our SQT treatments, the sponge spicules are used by sponges as an external defence system. The spicules consist of calcium carbonate, silica, and Chitin. This makes the spicules a multifunctional skincare ingredient, providing skin with a range of natural benefits.

    •  Some suntan lotions or hair perm can dissolve your nail polish.

    FAQS

    Maintenance Programme

Your natural nails will continue to grow with the enhancement and a small gap will appear which will require filling. The costs and frequency varies and are best discussed with a technician, it is usually required every 2/3 weeks.

Below are some common questions and answers regarding professional nail care. We hope this will be informative and help you to make the right decision when it comes to choosing to get your nails professionally cared for or do it yourself at home. Always remember to ask lots of questions if you are unsure of anything relating to nail care and nail enhancements whilst you visit a nail salon such as ours.

Why should I spend the time to have my nails professionally manicured ?

A beautiful, well-groomed nail is an important part of your overall look. Attractive nails and hands enhance your appearance, whether you spend your days in a kitchen or in a boardroom. A basic manicure takes between 20-30 minutes. Artificial nail services, such as tips, acrylics and gels, average about 40 minutes. The cost is quite affordable, and the results are well worth it.

    What is a Manicure ?

A natural nail treatment includes Cutting, shaping the natural nail, the removal of excess cuticle growth, a hand and lower arm massage and is finished with a polish colour of your choice.

    What is a Pedicure ?

The pedicure is a treatment for the feet it is performed in a massaging chair with a powerful jet stream foot spa. The treatment includes the cutting and shaping of the toe nails, the removal of excess cuticle growth, the removal of hard skin from the bottom of your feet, a lower leg and foot massage. It is finished with a polish colour of your choice.

How long will a basic manicure or pedicure last ?

A basic manicure or pedicure will last one to two weeks, depending on your lifestyle and the type of service you’ve had. If, for example, you work in the garden without gloves, your manicure probably won’t last long. Artificial nail services, such as acrylics, tips, wraps and gels maintain their fresh appearance much longer as they are more durable.

What are Acrylic Nail Extensions ?

Acrylics are the most common nail extension, they are strong and versatile, they can be finished in pretty much any colour, shape or form. Most women go for the elegant French manicure finish, as this goes with most outfits. Colours are good if you want to match an outfit or follow current fashion trends.

What are Permanent Pink and White nails ?

“Pink and White” refers to the use of two colours of acrylic applied to the nails to produce a permanent and natural-looking “French” manicure. The tips of the nails are sculpted in a perfect smile line using white acrylic, and the base of the nail is then overlaid with a warm pink. If you get bored with the French you can paint a polish colour over the extensions and when you remove the colour the French will still be there.

    What is “Shellac” ?

Shellac Is a Hybrid Nail colour, It applies like a polish, wears flawlessly for 14 days of high gloss shine, and is removed in minutes.

    What is Nail Art ?

Nail art is applied using fine detail brushes, prices vary depending on design. It is best to visit your local salon and view the vast selection of designs. Alternatively bring a picture of what you want and we will do our best to replicate it.

What are the main advantages of artificial nail applications ?

For people who have a tendency to bite or pick at their nails, there is a 90 percent success rate of stopping this habit with artificial nail applications. There are two reasons for this. First, people are less likely to ruin something they’ve spent time and money on. Secondly, nail biters are generally inspired by having beautiful hands for the first time in their lives. It can give you the long, healthy-looking nails you’ve always wanted!

Will my natural nails continue to grow under the Acrylics ?

Yes. Artificial nails can actually improve the health of your natural nails by protecting them from biting, picking, excess moisture and other elements that can weaken or damage them.

How do I maintain my nail extensions ?

Every two weeks your nail technician will fill in the area near the cuticle between where the natural nail has grown and where the artificial nail or tip is attached. This “fill” includes smoothing, re-sanitising and re-applying the acrylic where it has naturally grown out.

What are gel nails ? How do they differ from acrylic nails ?

Gels and acrylics are similar in that they both can be used to extend the length of the nails and make them stronger. One advantage of gel services is that they are odourless and transparent. Like acrylic, gels can be applied over the natural nail or over artificial nail tips.

How long do artificial nail last ?

Artificial nail applications should be maintained every two weeks. It is important to have regular fills because if the acrylic lifts away from the natural nail, moisture and bacteria can accumulate between them. A professional nail technician can spot problem areas best and should provide adequate advise.

Do extensions damage my nails ?

Most enhancements involve preparing your natural nail plate, during this procedure we have to etch the surface for the product to stay firmly on the nail without lifting. This process will cause weakness to the nail, but this is never permanent as your nails always grow out.

How long will it take for my nails to return to normal after removing my acrylics ?

The area the acrylics covered will be slightly weaker than the new growth from the cuticle; it will take a minimum of one month for you to grow out that weakened area. Be sure to use some strengthener treatment for your natural nails, condition your cuticles with specialised Oil and have regular manicures to maintain healthy growth.

Why do nails split or become yellow ?

Nails can split or yellow for a number of reasons. Excessive exposure to the elements or chemicals, poor diet, nail biting and other habits can be the cause

Why has my nail gone green ?

This happens when the extension comes away from the nail bed leaving a gap, this can be seen as a whitened area. When water gets trapped within this gap and becomes stagnant, it eventually turns into a fungus similar to that of mildew. Don’t be alarmed, if this happens pop in as soon as you can so that we can remove the extension.

Can pregnant women safely use nail polish ?

Yes. A lot of women have been polishing their nails for decades with no harmful effects. As a matter of fact, the polishes available today are safer than ever. Don’t be afraid.
